Briefly about the speakers:

Max Warshauer

Professor Warshauer received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 1979. Currently, Dr. Warshauer is building programs to teach young students mathematics. He is also involved with research about new curriculum and how to teach mathematics effectively. Dr. Warshauer is also interested in the analysis of algorithms and graph theory problems, working with other faculty on discrete math group theory problems, and also has interest in mathematical verification of hardware.

Hiroko Warshauer

Dr. Hiroko Kawaguchi Warshauer received her Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011. Her research interests include areas of teaching and learning that foster productive struggle and investigation of professional teacher noticing of student thinking at pre-service and in-service levels.  She is co-author of the Math Explorations curriculum, a Texas Mathworks middle school textbook series state adopted in Texas and the Mathworks Junior Summer Math Camp curriculum. She provides professional development to support curriculum implementation.  She is the Mathworks research coordinator, overseeing Mathworks related research about summer math camps, teacher training, curriculum, and classroom interactions with faculty and doctoral students in mathematics and mathematics education.

Terence McCabe

Dr. Terence McCabe teaching mathematics at Texas State since 1988, and has worked with MathWorks and taught in Honors Summer Math Camp since 1991. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from institutions such as the University of Texas, UC Berkeley and Harvard. He also received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Faculty Senate Everette Swinney Award for Teaching, both in 2004.

Diann McCabe, MFA

Diann McCabe is the Director of Academic Development and Co-Chair of the Common Experience at Texas State University. Diann is a graduate of the Honors Program with a degree in English and MFA in Creative Writing from Texas State. Together with her husband, Terrence, she spent four years working in Mississippi with rural society around 1970’s and two years in Indonesia working with the village development program.
