The Role of Lysine and Gold Nanoparticles in Hydroxyapatite Formation
Journal Title : Investigation of pH effect on lysine-capped gold nanoparticles to induce hydroxyapatite formation
Author : Annisa Tsalsabila, Yuliati Herbani, Yessie Widya Sari
Scientists have explored how lysine-capped gold nanoparticles influence the formation of hydroxyapatite, a key material for bone and dental implants. By adjusting pH levels (8 to 12) during synthesis, researchers found that pH affects the crystal structure and composition of hydroxyapatite, with pH 11 producing a composition closest to natural bone. These findings offer new insights into biomaterial engineering, potentially leading to stronger, more biocompatible bone substitutes for medical applications.
This research supports SDG 3 by contributing to better bone and dental implant materials, enhancing patient recovery and quality of life. It also aligns with SDG 9 by advancing nanotechnology and biomaterial synthesis for medical applications.
