A recent computational study has developed a mathematical model to better understand how Alzheimer’s disease progresses and how anti-Aβ drug therapy interacts with the brain’s immune response. The simulations reveal that while drug therapy can effectively reduce amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaque deposits, its impact diminishes after approximately four months, suggesting a need for further drug development. The findings highlight the complex relationship between plaque accumulation, inflammation, and treatment response, offering new insights for improving Alzheimer’s therapies.
This research supports SDG 3 by advancing treatment strategies for neurodegenerative diseases. It also aligns with SDG 9 by leveraging computational modeling to drive medical innovation. Additionally, it contributes to SDG 4 by enhancing scientific knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease, which can aid researchers and medical professionals in developing more effective treatments.
